Farmington River Trip 2019
EJTU will join the Joan Wulff Fly Fishers on a trip to the Farmington River in Connecticut on July 20, 2019. Here are the details:
Location: Farmington River, New Hartford, CT Date: July 20, 2019 Trip Leader/Contact: Dino Eftychiou (551) 427-5475 If you are planning on attending, please RSVP via email, text or phone ASAP. River(s): Farmington River, West Branch. Most pools are located on East or West River road. The river is in good wading shape with cool temps, but will be crowded due to low water and high temps in other regional areas. Meeting Location: Saturday, at Whittemore Picnic Area. Trip leader will provide additional information about meetup time after you RSVP. Species: Brook, Rainbow, Tiger and Brown, Trout, small Atlantic Salmon Wading and/or Floating: Wading Wading Degree of Difficulty: Varies depending on area and pool- average is easy to moderate conditions that depend on water CFS levels. Suggested Equipment: 9 foot, 5 weight, leaders vary depending on dries/wet/nymphs. 9-12 foot leader 4x-6x. Tippet-what you are comfortable with. Nearby Fly Shop: Upcountry Sports (also sells CT licenses) Fly Shop Contact Info: www.farmingtonriver.com (Upcountry Sports) Accommodations: Several Bed and Breakfasts as well as no frills hotels are available. You cab stay at the Hillside Motel ($)(860.693.4951), but the Riverton ($$$) is nice too. There are others available. Campgrounds are also available for tent camping/ RV Licenses: A CT fishing license (trout stamp also required) can be purchased at Upcountry Sports or at the following link: https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/ Recommended Fly Patterns: Isonychias 10/12 BWOs 18/20, Sulphurs 14/16/18, Ants, Beetles, Caddis 14/16/18, nymphs and streamers. It is best to bring lunch/snacks or purchase and carry with you. Dinner is on your own. Some meet up and go out while others have food to eat back at the place of lodging. Please be advised that weather conditions affect not only fishing quality but water quality as well. Most hotels have a 48 hours cancellation policy and if weather does not look promising or the river is too high/low you can still cancel and get a refund for lodging. Make sure to discuss upon reserving room. An advisory will be sent out on closer to the trip time for the convenience of cancellation and making other arrangements. |
