Recommended Fly Fishing Equipment For New Jersey

Are you just beginning to fly fish?  We were all beginners at one time and we know that selecting and purchasing the proper tackle can be confusing.  EJTU has put together the following list of tackle, extras and flies for trout fishing in New Jersey.  While no list of fishing tackle will suit all conditions, the items listed below is a great starting point and they will allow you successfully angle for trout in most of our local waters.

Minimum Fly Fishing Tackle For Beginners

8'-6" or 9'-0" Mid-Flex or Tip-Flex 4 or 5 weight fly rod
Appropriately sized weight forward floating fly line, which should match the weight of your fly rod
20 pound braided dacron backing
Fly Reel that will adequately hold your fly line and backing
5X Knotless nylon tapered leaders in 9 FT and 12 FT lengths
A few spools of nylon tippet such as 5X and 6X
Pair of nippers or scissors for cutting line
Fly box
NJ Fishing license and trout stamp
