Points Program

For information, contact our Board of Directors Member in charge of the Points Program,
Paul Reithmeier (paulr21@optonline.net)
Points Program Overview

Did you ever wonder why some EJTU members wear polo shirts, denim shirts, green jackets, or fleece jackets with our logo embroidered on the chest, but you can’t buy them for yourself? They can’t be purchased because they are awards to members who have invested sufficient volunteer hours in EJTU to have earned them as a “Thank You” from the chapter.

If you have helped at EJTU events, you were likely to have been asked to sign an attendance sheet of some sort. Sometimes it’s just a plain pad of paper and at others it’s a printed attendance sheet. Whatever the format, the names of the people who have helped at the event will be sent to a board member who is responsible for assigning point values according to the time spent (generally it is 10 points for four hours work) and to recording every member’s accumulation of points.

When members help the chapter at our schools, at stockings, clean-ups, donating flies or any of our other activities, there is always someone who records attendance and then forwards the information to Paul Reithmeier, a member of the board of directors who is responsible for maintaining a record of members’ volunteer time.  Paul converts the volunteer activities to points and when a member’s points reaches specific levels, Paul awards the member the appropriate gifts at our annual banquet.

How to Earn Points

Points are awarded based upon volunteer work at either a chapter event or an external event in which EJTU participates.

Ten points are awarded each time a member does the following:
  • Makes a donation. The donations can be anything a director accepts. Once the donation has been accepted, points will be awarded. Ten points will be awarded for every $50.00 of retail value.
  • Volunteers his or her time. Every four hours worked will earn ten points. i.e. Spring or fall stockings, TIC Egg Delivery. etc.
  • Participates in a stream clean-up.
  • Writes an original article for Riffles containing a minimum of fifty words.
  • Attends various chapter committee meetings.
  • Represents the chapter at public meetings, such as Bergen County Sportsman, Scouts, etc.
  • Ties and donates a dozen flies to the Chapter.
  • Serves as an instructor at a fly tying or fly fishing school.
  • Comes up with an idea, and helps carry it to its completion i.e. trip ideas, fund raising ideas, etc.
  • Serves on the Welcome Committee. Volunteer your time at a general meeting to welcome, talk to, and sit with a new or prospective member.
  • Sponsors a new member.
  • Displays special skills for an exhibition.
  • Takes a new member to a river he or she has never fished. Shows him or her where and how to fish the river.
  • Helps to set up or take down an EJTU exhibit.
