Voorhees State Park Fishing / Camping Trip 2019

Once again, East Jersey TU is offering a NJ Camping and Fishing Trip.

Camping Friday, Saturday nights. Fishing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

River(s): Ken Lockwood Gorge section of South Branch Raritan River; South Branch Raritan River

Smaller streams: Willoughby Brook (also known as Buffalo Hollow Brook, a wild trout stream); Spruce Run; Mulhockaway Creek; Capoolong Creek.


Meeting Location: Voorhees State Park

Quarry: Mainly Rainbow Trout

River Access: Wading

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate - varies depending on area and pool.  We will be fishing for mainly stocked fish.

Suggested Equipment: 9 foot, 5 weight, leaders vary depending on dries/wet/nymphs. 9-12 foot leader 4x-6x. Tippet-what you are comfortable with.

Nearby Fly Shop: Andover Hunt and Fish and Shannon's Fly Shop

Accommodations: Campsites are $20 per night (NJ residents) or $25 night (non-NJ residents) plus 1 time $5 non-refundable fee per reservation. 

Charlie Maccia is organizing this trip. He is booked in site # 43 and is keeping track to try and get sites close together if possible, so please contact him before you book to see what sites we have already. 

Meals:  Everyone is on their own for meals.  Many people will choose to cook meals at the campsite.

Licenses: A NJ fishing license and trout stamp is required.  Licenses can be purchased online here.

Recommended Fly Patterns: Standard trout flies.  Ants, Caddis, mayfies per hatch chart.  Nymphs.  Woolly Bugger, squirmy worm and mop fly.

Miscellaneous Information: Please follow all state park rules.  Alcohol is prohibited.  For more information about Voorhees and/or to book a campsite visit the website:

You can have up to 6 people and 2 vehicles per site. Feel free to come up to fish but not stay over if camping isn’t your thing. Please follow all State Park rules.

Studded wading boots and a wading staff are highly recommended.

Strong insect repellent may be necessary, especially for ticks. 

Sun block and raingear are also recommended.  If projected weather conditions deteriorate prior to the trip the trip coordinator may send out an email cancelling the trip.

Cell phone reception can be spotty.
